The one tip that will make iMedia coursework a breeze
I’m not going to lie. This won’t halve your work load or even mean that you will have less work to do. But it will save you time procrastinating!
When teaching Creative iMedia and talking to students about their coursework when they get onto LO2 (reading client requirements and getting their ideas down) the one thing that students waste time on and that hinders their performance (and grades) later on, is setting a specific target audience.
OCR are pretty cunning, as normally in a client brief the target audience is left up to you. Unfortunately this leads many students to make the target audience vague, 10 – 60 year olds is not specific enough!
The one thing that will make your iMedia coursework easier? Set yourself a very specific target audience – I would advise the more specific the better. Here are a few examples:
Advertisement for photographing your local town – Target audience is local pensioners aged between 65 and 75. Larger text needed due to age and formal language used. The image doesn’t need to be overly bright and it can have a bit more text on it as they are older. You could aim it at pensioners who want to take up a new hobby or those that wanted to rediscover photography now they have finished working and have a bit more time.
A website about games – Target audience is young children aged 7 – 12 years old. Colours will need to be bright and attractive, language used will be informal but will also need to be simpler due to their age. Games advertised will need to appeal to and be suitable for this target audience. Potentially this could tie in with e-safety and staying safe online due to their age.
Hopefully you can see how this simplifies the coursework. By making the target audience more specific the design of the poster or the website becomes so much simpler and saves you time procrastinating as the choices to make become obvious.
In conclusion – go very specific for your target audience for your coursework. You could literally use the examples above and apply to your coursework as you get onto LO2 where you have to design it and write your ideas from the client brief. While it won’t reduce the amount of work you need to do, this one tip will help you to save time.
