Creating Interactive Multimedia products
What is R087
R087 is an optional coursework component of the Creative iMedia course entitled Creating Interactive Multimedia products and is worth 25% of your overall grade. Your teacher will choose which of the optional coursework modules you need to complete. Please ask your teacher if you are unsure which of the optional modules you will be doing.
What is covered in R087?
R087 is all about creating interactive multimedia products in response to a brief.
OCR give out a few set projects that all involve creating interactive multimedia products for a different scenario and your teacher will generally choose which scenario your class (or you) will complete.
The project will involve you using appropriate interactive multimedia software (such as Adobe Photoshop, G.I.M.P, Serif Web Plus, Google Web Designer, Microsoft PowerPoint, Windows Movie Maker, Apple iMovie) to create an interactive multimedia product.
How is R087 split up?
R087 is split into 4 main Learning Objectives (or LO for short):
- LO1
- LO2
- LO3
- LO4
LO1
Understand the properties and uses of interactive multimedia products
LO2
Plan an interactive multimedia product in response to a brief
LO3
Create an interactive multimedia product in response to a brief
LO4
Evaluate and review the interactive multimedia product that you created
R087 advice
LO1
LO1 is all about researching what interactive multimedia products are and how they are used. You may decide to download images of different types of interactive multimedia products so that you can reference them when writing about them.
LO2
LO2 is where you will be given the client brief and you will have to analyse it and write about it. It is advised that you print off the client brief and highlight all of the key tasks that the client wants you to do as well as highlighting any of the key specification points that you are expected to fulfil with your product.
You will also be expected to generate ideas for the project in LO2 and this will involve creating some idea generation diagrams such as a mind map or mood board that will help to explain to the person marking your work where your ideas came from.
Other pre-production documents will also need to be created including a work plan that will show how you will create your product and a visualisation diagram.
LO3
LO3 is the section where you will create the interactive multimedia product. You will use your technical skills in the software package that has been chosen by your school to create an interactive multimedia product. You will need to save your work in the correct format and the correct specification as given by the client brief.
LO4
LO4 is where you will evaluate the product that you have created. You will need to discuss how you have met all of the elements of the client brief so having your highlighted client brief to hand will be useful. You will also need to discuss which parts of the project you think went well and if given more time, how you might extend or improve the product that you have created.
