Website update 31/1/2022
In today’s update we talk about our online course upgrade and also the style / site menu and content upgrades that we have implemented.
Behind the scenes we’ve updated our online course software to the pro version which should now allow us to provide certificates to students who complete a course. This should also allow us to add users as teachers to see how students progress as they are going through a course.
This feature is still under testing at the minute but hopefully it should be ready soon and we will produce some documentation about how it works once we have tested it thoroughly!
The biggest visual change is our new content and the change in how the menu system looks.
As you may or may not know, OCR are releasing a new specification for Creative iMedia in September 2022 known as J834 while simultaneously running the old specification J817 until June 2023. In light of this, we will be having 2 specification on the site until at least June 2023. We’ve now split the menu into these 2 specification options and included the start and end dates so that hopefully it will be obvious to users which spec they should be looking at.
As part of this, and to get ready for the upcoming change we’ve begun to put new material together for the new specification. This has involved really diving into the new spec and figuring out how it is going to work in the real world, while also keeping in mind that the new specification is still a draft.
So far, I’m liking the way the specification has gone and from a teaching stand point it makes a lot more sense and should be slightly easier on teachers in terms of marking and organising. In terms of knowledge, it is more in depth than the last specification, but this is what the specification needed to draw students in.
So far we’ve made brief outlines of all of the modules available and what they briefly include, and intend to create some resources and online courses as soon as we can for the exam module R093. Until OCR release some more material and examples of set tasks, it is difficult from the spec to be specific about what things could be included in some of the modules.
For now, hopefully this information on the new spec will be useful to teachers and hopefully as more information becomes available from OCR, more can be added.
Thanks for reading and thanks for your support!
