Website update 18/7/22
It’s that time again, another website update that I really should have done earlier. Sorry about that!
Last Tuesday we completed a move to a new, faster server (it’s got more CPU cores, more RAM and more bandwidth!). Over the past couple of months with more and more users on the websites, we’ve seen (and experienced first hand) issues relating to speed and sometimes a complete failure of the website as it became too much for our poor old server. Hopefully this new upgrade should alleviate these issues and help the website to provide a decent service to everyone who is accessing it.
It does however, mean that our website costs have significantly increased (350%!!!) so expect me to be plugging our Ko-fi link whenever I can ?. But seriously – we provide the website and resources for free so if you are able to help out by buying us a coffee, tipping us £1 or giving away some of your hard watched BAT token, it all really helps and is much appreciated. Thank you!
As the school term comes to a close (last week for most) it’s really important to take time to reflect on the academic year that has just gone. What went well? What didn’t go as well as expected and what are your plans for next year? I think that it is really important to get this down before you finish up so it is still fresh in your mind, revisit before you start school again and after you have had a break and plan accordingly. Perhaps after a break some of the bigger issues don’t seem as big anymore? By addressing these pain points and planning to overcome them, you can start September off on the right foot.
For myself, I’ll be working on the website through the summer (among other things) and hope to get some more of the new J834 courses done in time for September. I think the new course will provide a lot of challenges – as new courses always do. There is a lot of new things for students to learn but I do think that the change in the course is for the better (3 pieces of coursework to mark was always too much!).
I really hope that everyone gets a well deserved break and as always I’ll be posting updates when new parts of the website come online so that you know as soon as they become available.
Once again many thanks for your support and have a great summer break ?.
